We all need something to cheer us up from time to time. This is a selection of comics we have found to fill that need.

- Arlo and Janis - Some gentle humour usually at the expense of those of the male persuasion.
- Pickles - This one got a mention in one of my other regulars and having looked I found the humour and viewpoints suited so I suppose I may be getting old!
- Daily Cat Comics!!- Follow the daily antics of Tigey, Indy and Nonie. Most of the back numbers are also there to view.
- Calvin and Hobbes - Our sons' role model, but which is Hobbes?
- Get Fuzzy - ruled by a renegade cat - the alternative role model.
- Citizen Dog - Recently started to show the Citizen Dog series from the begining again. Currently re-showing many that are available in the three published books. Watch Fergus' character evolve!
- Dilbert - Scott Adams study of the working environment and much used by management consultants for examples of 'how not to do it'. We have all seen and worked with the characters!
- Graffiti - Sometimes it hits the spot and sometimes just points up culture differences across the pond.
- Peanuts - Still fun after so long
- Born Loser - We all have days like this!
- Close to Home - or like this!
- Frank and Ernest - Some gentle humour with these good natured ne're-do-well characters.
- Pearls before Swine - Let Pig, Rat and their friends enlighten you! Watch this space daily to see if the 'Crockydiles' succeed in their pursuit of 'zeeba neighbour'.
-
XKCD - Described as a webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language. maybe not for the children sometimes.
Don't forget to hover the mouse over the strip as the comment shown sometimes helps to elucidate the differnces in language and outlook that the pond creates. - Andy Capp - The genuine unreconstructed male outlook. Can he survive!
If you enjoy the strip buy the book and pig-out on the ones you missed.

Making Radio Valves by Hand!
This French Radio Ham (Callsign F2FO) makes radio valves by hand - well with a few tools - blow-torch, vacuum pump, spot-welder and Swiss army knife.
There is a superb video near the bottom of the page showing the whole process.
The results are maybe a little rough looking but they just show where it all started and can bring old receivers back to life.
- Period Property Forum Interesting source of information for owners of older properties who want to keep them in good condition. The Discussion Forum is a great place to chat about problems that arise when renovating, repairing or extending.
- Origami meets petrolhead Mad! Quite completely mad! Nearly 6000 parts and it even turns. From experience of handling the real thing I can assure you this one is very much easier to lift! Checkout the gallery of pictures and movies only the authentic V8 sound is missing!
- Hack-A-Day Every day a new example of how to divert a piece of technology to do something useful for you beyond its original purpose. Some are wacky and some are brilliant and of course many include an Arduino - even if only for street cred!

Maeshowe Webcam
Maeshowe is a Neolithic Chambered Cairn in Orkney. It is an amazing piece of construction
and is aligned such that the setting sun at mid-winter shines down the entrance tunnel onto the facing wall.
Orkney is a long way to go in December but these people have set up webcams in the site and, weather permitting, you can watch the effects as the sun sets.
Broadcasts in 2010 were terminated by the bad weather affecting the equipment but they promise to be back in November 2011 with a new and better system.
In case the weather is bad or you cannot drop in at the right time they have pictures and movies of previous sunsets
