Green Tomato Chutney
This is from David's Mum's notebook and is probably an old Lincolnshire/Yorkshire recipe.
Quantities
Qty | Description | Qty | Description |
---|---|---|---|
1 lb | green tomatoes | ½ lb | sultanas |
1½ lb | apples | 2 tbsp | salt |
1 lb | onions | 2 tbsp | preserved ginger |
2 lb | brown sugar | 1 pint | vinegar |
½ tsp | cayenne pepper |
Method
The instructions I was given say to peel the tomatoes but I don't think it's either practical or necessary.
Peel onions and apples.
Cut tomatoes, onions, apples and ginger into small pieces.
Boil all together until thick.
Bottle and cover.
